Day 1 - Wednesday, March 22

Pepe Ahonen by Serge Sozonoff 16 men and 4 women hiked to the summit of the Bec des Rosses today for the first round of the Red Bull Xtreme by Swatch. Newcomer, Julie Larson was the first competitor down the 3’222m face. The American’s line was clean and smooth. Pepi Ahonen and Victoria Jamieson followed. Both had super solid runs with Pepi landing her 3 jumps perfectly and Victoria mastering her line with ease. Eva Sandelgard, however, stole the show. Last year’s winner once again proved that she was unbeatable, her choice of line unique, her run smooth, fast and fluid.
Serge Cornillat by Marco Shapiro Last minute entry and last rider of the day, Florian Orley surprised everyone with a new line which led to the Austrian achieving the highest score of the day. Florian tackled the steeps with great control and ease taking full advantage of the powder covered terrain and executing two impressive jumps.
French rider Serge Cornillat descended the Bec des Rosses with his renowned control and technical skill, however his chosen line was not quite enough to beat the young Austrian.
Gilles Voirol by Myriam Lang Willar True to his style, three time champion, Steve Klassen, once again made full use of the mountain, including several jumps in his rapid and fluid descent.
Local rider Gilles Voirol impressed the crowd with his innovative and technical line. His spectacular entrance into the face was the most original of the day followed by two massive jumps never previously attempted. Fellow Swiss rider, Cyril Neri overwhelmed the crowds with a massive 360 off a ten meter cliff, unfortunately he did not manage to pull off the landing which penalized his final score.
