|
 |
Homage to The Gods | About Kaunolu | Dustin Webster | Event Summary
[Event Summary: Final Results]
In the 18th Century, the first king of Hawaii, Kamehameha, resided on the
beautiful island of Lana'i during the summer months. In honor of their Gods, and as a test
of courage, Kamehameha's warriors dove from the cliffs into the turquoise ocean. These leaps
from the historic cliffs are credited as the birth of cliff diving.
The tropical paradise enjoys special regulatory protection and therefore exceptional care
will be taken when dealing with the holy sites, temples and other sanctuaries on the island.
The event will be a melting pot of high performance sport and history with the inclusion
of the local people and their traditional rites
