Chamonix, France

We left Davos a couple of days ago and have reunited with the entire Utah crew
here in Chamonix. This place can only be described as a moutaineers heaven and a freeskiers wake
up call. Huge glaciers, monstrous cliffs, ice falls, and anything else you could think of exist
here in large proportions.
The last two days were spent exploring the terrain off the Agiule Di Midi and
the Grand Montet areas. For any one who has not been here, the tram ride up the Aguile is out of
this world. It rises 3482 meters up from the valley floor in Chamonix using only two lift towers.
The top 2000 meters does not require any towers because it basically goes straight up a cliff face
loaded with some of the most intimidating descents in the world. At the top is where the fun
really begins with a rope assisted walk along a knife edge ridge with exposure that is like 3000
feet on one side and only a few hundred on the other. People fall here a few times a year and
are gone.
The Utah crew in Chamonix consists of Ox, G-money, Will Burks, Matty Chavez, Ben
Beaner, Grom, and Dave McReynolds. Our guide for the day was an American guy that goes by the name
of Roe. We chose a descent known as the Col de Plan, a series of fun, steep faces down to the
glacier. The total vertical being something like 9500 feet. Probably, the best part of the run
were the views of the Valley Blache and the lifetime of possible descents that exist in this part
of the Alps. Currently we are planning our next descent from the Aguile, there are so many options
it is difficult to choose. On top of that we have yet to explore the other five areas in this
valley. It is definitely a place that we will have to return to. For now everybody is stoked
and in good shape with the exception of a smokers cough from hanging out in a place where
everyone burns cigarettes religiously.
Peace, Dave and Grom
